Despite the technical tools available, many users set their own rules for screen time rationing. Some remove the Facebook and Instagram apps from their phones and access the services only from their computers. At the same time, others configure these apps to work only on Wi-Fi.

Digital detox retreat

If you have problems with self-control, while Apple and Google services can’t save you, a special detox retreat may help. For example, one of these retreats offers to spend a week on the Spanish island of Ibiza without a phone or other gadgets. However, it may cost you $2,000. Yes, paying that much money to have someone take your smartphone away from you is strange enough. Perhaps you should consider the option of regular trips out of the city, where an Internet connection is simply not available. 

Faraday shield 

This is an ordinary case that works on the principle of a Faraday cage. Such covers block calls, SMS messages, push notifications. In general, they keep the phone practically in an inactive state. As a result, you won’t receive notifications and you won’t have a reason to pick up your smartphone.

Timer-operated phone safe

Another seemingly obvious way not to pick up the phone every ten minutes is to simply turn it off: for an hour or two or three, or even for the whole day. If this doesn’t help, buy a special safe. This is a kind of box on which you set the smartphone blocking period. The safe won’t open until the designated time has passed.

So, the world of digital technologies gives us a lot of opportunities. However, many people abuse it and spend too much time on their smartphone, PC, or laptop. The main thing is to find the right balance, and you can use one of the above methods for this.
