There were few mechanical requirements for registration with District Industries Centers prior to the enactment of the MSME Development Act of 2006. (DICs). Business visionaries were obliged by the Act to record an Entrepreneur Memorandum (EM) Part-I in DIC prior to establishing an MSME, and an EM-II after beginning manufacturing activities. Between 2007 and 2015, 21,96,902 EM-II papers were prepared, and 1,02,32,451 (1.02 crore) SEM-II entries were made on the e-recording framework as part of the Udyog Aadhaar Memorandum (UAM) MSME registration enrolment between September 2015 and June 30, 2020. Venture Registration has taken the place of UAM.

This will help the government gather data on the country’s SMEs. Aside from that, the government will obtain data on product categories such as apparel, electronics, precious stones, and autos, as well as major business size, speculation, and turnover. Furthermore, data on the thickness of MSMEs at the city, state, and regional levels will be sent to the government. “Information reaping is a significant problem, and currently everything is about information,” Vishwanath, co-chair of the Ph.D. Chamber of Commerce and Industrial’s industrial undertakings advisory board, told Financial Express Online.

While an MSME only requires one Udyog enrollment, it can coordinate various duties under one enrollment, such as creation, administration, or both, in contrast to the past, when many Udyog Aadhaar enlistments were necessary for multiple projects. “MSMEs were expected to obtain separate Udyog Aadhaar enlistments for each of their various plants prior to the launch of the Udyam portal.” New firms can be formed at the new entrance, which takes Aadhaar, PAN, and GST details, but, unlike UAM, the turnover and speculation cutoffs will be established based on the asset report, which requires only Aadhaar.
